Pavement adds Colorado date to reunion tour

Pavement, band

Brooklyn Vegan called it. MTV blogged it. Relix hailed it as the “return of the heavily favored underdogs.” And now, it’s finally coming to us: Alt-rock giants Pavement announced a long-awaited reunion tour several months back, and yesterday added six more shows, including a date Sept. 9 at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield. The reunion, which so far as been touted as a one-and-done deal, is barely underway and already it’s looking pretty prolific. Stephen Malkmus and company are currently touring Australia, and will then make their way through Japan, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Canada, before finally ending back in the States in September with four sold-out shows in New York’s Central Park. It’s been nearly 10 years since Pavement last attempted such an epic romp, and we all remember how well that last tour ended: Malkmus broke down and the band broke up. Positive thoughts, people, September is a long ways away.
