Photo Atlas hits CMJ, Vajra crowned DMC world champion, and more
The Photo Atlas
Our music scene is a busy place with lots happening. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you could miss something important! That’s okay—we’re here to help with a weekly roundup of some of the more enticing news happening around town.
• Seems like it’s been a while since we last heard from The Photo Atlas, but that doesn’t mean the guys haven’t been busy. Quite the opposite actually: They have updated headshots (see above), an East Coast tour on its way to CMJ, and a chirpy new tune up now on SoundCloud. “Move It Darling” is a familiar-sounding Photo Atlas, a little bit of punky dance-rock with a whole lot of attitude.
• DJ Vajra took the top spot in the DMC DJ World Championships in London and was crowned the 2011 DMC World Champion. Congratulations to Vajra, and keep an eye out for a Q&A with the man soon.
• The Fray’s been chipping away at its forthcoming album, Scars & Stories, slated for release early next year. Westword posted the first single from the album, “Heartbeat,” yesterday. Listen to it now, or just turn on any local radio station between now and forever.
• Fader premièred The Morning Clouds’ newest music video last week. The cleverly edited “A Walk Home” employs stock footage from corporate films, and the result is a (rather timely) montage of the shallow culture of big business. Think gray suits and pencil skirts, creepy handshakes, and dead-eyed worker bees smiling for no reason at all.

• Another Brass Tree Session is out. The three-part episode (number seven in the series) includes performances by Amazing Twin, Mancub, and Accordion Crimes. Party on, dudes.
• Because words are boring and reading is overrated, we’ll let this unofficial BLKHRTS music video do the talking/dancing/ADD-style editing for us.
