Pulling up roots
The original Uplifter: Lee "Scratch" Perry
After many Sundays of filling The Thin Man with the sounds of vintage reggae, Denver DJs Segue and Uplifter are on the move. The duo’s monthly Dub Palace set—which is broadcast live on KGNU the first Sunday of each month—will make its first transmission from its new home, the Meadowlark, tonight between 10 and 1 (but show up at 9 for the pre-broadcast warmup). As KGNU volunteer Lori Deringer explains, the relocation was decided upon “mostly because of space. In the months of December and January [at The Thin Man], we had so many people show up that it actually became too crowded. I look forward to seeing how the Meadowlark can help us increase the show’s popularity. I personally look forward to the ability to shake my booty without having to move for people headed to the bathroom.” For those who can’t make it in the flesh, the sweet, soul-quaking riddims of Dub Palace can be heard on 88.5 FM/1390 AM or via podcast at kgnu.org.
