Safe Boating Is No Accident deliver the all-time best banjo-based cover of Danzig’s “Mother”

Safe Boating Is No Accident

The world has suffered too long without a banjo-based cover of Danzing’s classic tune, “Mother.” But now, at long last, the suffering has ended. Safe Boating Is No Accident has delivered the world from its long, dark night of banjo-less darkness via a thoroughly awesome YouTube clip.

The video spotlights the act’s dapper singer-songwriter Leighton Peterson in high-contrast black-and-white, strumming his banjo and transforming the original’s dark, theatrical menace into quirky comedy. Have a look and listen.

Like most of Safe Boating’s work, it combines an offbeat take on Americana tropes with a touch of exceedingly dry and subtly absurd wit. As such, it’s a fine introduction to the duo’s work.
