Slim Cessna rarities re-release, Bad Weather California on Daytrotter, and more
Our music scene is a busy place with lots happening. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you could miss something important! That’s okay—we’re here to help with a weekly roundup of some of the more enticing news happening around town.
• 'Tis the season for giving… still. Slim Cessna's Auto Club recently re-released Rare Recordings, Vol. 1-2 as a pay-what-you-want download on its website. The discs are "very old cassette recordings," according to the description, which includes the polite plea, "Please donate what you think it's worth—it will help with the bills this winter."
• Bad Weather California will be making a day-trip to the Daytrotter studios on Jan. 16 for a live session. The next best thing to actually being there with the band? Daytrotter's new live broadcast (accessible with a cheap $3 session pass) that allows online access to the recording as it's being put to tape.
• Monroe Monroe is reaching out to its fans for a little monetary help as well via Kickstarter. The band has three days left to raise $1,200, which it intends to put toward a late-January tour and toward financing its forthcoming still-untitled EP.
• Working hard for the money, Calder's Revolvers are doing it the old-fashioned way with an EP release show this Friday at the Larimer Lounge. A cut from the new Black Bloc—the bluesy rock number "True To You"—is already out on the latest This Ain't No Cowtown compilation, available now as a free download through ZetaKaye House.
• There's a new Ian Cooke video out for the track "A Reasonable Life." Shot at Lost Lake Lounge, the short video stars Ian Cooke as a man divided, er, multiplied.
