If you always wanted to see The Flaming Lips perform in a winter wonderland, or if “way too hot” tops your list of reasons for avoiding giant, summertime music festivals, have we got some good news: From March 4-6, Vail Valley is kicking off an early festival season with Snow Ball Festival, a massive skiing/snowboarding/music festival headlined by The Flaming Lips, Diplo, and Bassnectar. During the day, skiing and snowboarding opportunities abound for the winter sports fans. Each night, multiple stages and a “dance dome” will guarantee that all of the acts you actually want to see will be playing at the same time, in the finest festival tradition.
Ticket packages combining lift tickets and festival passes are, for the time being, sold out, but if you can scrape up $450, you can grab a VIP super package that includes a fancy three-day pass and lift privileges. If that sounds a little out of your league, you can always just grab the three-day music pass for $165 and spend your days sipping hot chocolate and trying to pick up ski bunnies in the lodge, which is always the best part of skiing anyway. Still too rich for your blood? The plan appears to be to sell some one-day passes at some point, so check the festival website for details as they are announced, including a schedule, so you can plan your visit.
