Music Notes Something Like Sound releases free comp, ROM track released, and more

Something Like Sound, ROM Something Like Sound's new comp beckons to you

Our music scene is a busy place with lots happening. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you could miss something important! That’s okay—we’re here to help with a weekly roundup of some of the more enticing news happening around town.

• The lovely Something Like Sound blog released its second free compilation of Colorado music today, with 20 tracks from local artists, including unreleased tracks from The Knew, Fingers Of The Sun, and At The Forefront.

Force Publique and Flashlights are teaming up for a split EP to be released on the charmingly anachronistic medium of cassette tape.

• Jazz aficionados will be thrilled to hear that renowned trombonist Curtis Fuller has been booked to play the Five Points Jazz Festival May 21.

• Did you miss the DJ set from Jersey Shore’s own Pauly D last week? Fret not; you can catch up on your people watching in this convenient slideshow of the event.

• The first tune from the mysterious ROM, titled “Electric Mistress,” has surfaced, and the first review of the track says it resembles “Wendy Carlos filtered through a Commodore 64’s SID chip then sucked through a reverb filter,” which is promising. Hear it below.
