Spring Fever Festival brings music to the mountains throughout April
Breckenridge fest offers free shows, plus lots more
Get high up in the mountains and see Flobots, free!
For those who want to ski or build a snowman before the powder melts away—and maybe enjoy some music while doing it—a trip to Breckenridge might be in order for the town’s first-ever Spring Fever Festival. From April 1-24, this festival sends the slopes out in style with a slew of events highlighted by three weekends of music.
“I’m excited, really, honestly, for our concert lineup,” says Kieran Cain, the director of marketing and sales for the Breckenridge Ski Resort. “We [went] after those artists that really fit the mountain lifestyle. We didn’t want the same type of band performing everyday over the three weeks,” Cain says.
The Flobots and Cornmeal will kick things off the weekend of April 2-3. The following weekend will see Ozomatli and The Wailers jamming the afternoons away, with Moe. and DeVotchKa closing out the series. The resort is in the process of building a stage at the bottom of Peak 8 for the eclectic mix of artists. Best of all, all the shows are free.
Beyond the concerts, there are 35 to 40 different events taking place around Peak 8. You’ve got your “Fever-Que” cook-off and the beginners’ snowboarding camp-type events for the whole family, while the Breckenridge Beer Fest and the “Ultimate Apres Ski” bar crawl will give the grown-ups an excuse to punish their livers. If you need to repent for any your behavior by the time it wraps up, there’s even an Easter service April 24 on Peak 9, followed by an Easter egg hunt at the Breckenridge Recreation Center. Amen.
The whole point of the thing is to get people to come up and have some fun, and the resort has spared no expense to make sure that’s what will happen. “We’ve had, in the past, different iterations of spring events,” Cain says. “We did some research with our guests and found out [the past events weren’t] resonating as well … this year we put a lot more money and effort behind it for the chance to do a spring like never before.”
