Stereogum loves Denver, Sole And The Skyrider Band debut video, and more
Stereogum loves Denver and Sauna
Our music scene is a busy place with lots happening. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you could miss something important! That’s okay—we’re here to help with a weekly roundup of some of the more enticing news happening around town.
• Stereogum is on a Denver kick. The long-running music site had some nice things to say about our city a couple weeks back, and this morning, it premièred a new music video from our very own Sauna. “Glitter Party” is a poppy, garage-rock ditty that’s pretty darn cute and doesn’t skimp on the shiny stuff. No guts, no glitter, eh?

• Sole And The Skyrider Band premièred a new music video on MTV Iggy, an online MTV offshoot focused on “exciting young musicians creating the sounds of the future.” Futuristic is definitely the motif on Sole’s “Bad Captain Swag,” a heady hip-hop track with vocal contributions from Lil B and Pictureplane. The video is just as glitchy, a virtual adventure overrun by warring humanoid drones.
• A new album is in the works for singer-songwriter Joe Sampson, although an official date has yet to be announced. But a few homemade videos have surfaced in the last week, including several duets with Nathaniel Rateliff and a solo Sampson on the sweetly sullen track “Naked Women.”
• Le Divorce—unabashed lovers of the ’90s—released a new EP, The Sting And The Light, over the weekend. (See: Snapshots from the Hi-Dive show via local music blog Concerted Effort.) For those who can’t quite commit to purchasing the album, Le Divorce has graciously posted The Sting for preview on its SoundCloud and Bandcamp.
The one and only Magic Cyclops, fresh off his triumphant trolling of the American Idol judges, announced via his Facebook page he'll be making the trek to SXSW. No word yet on where he'll be playing, but we're sure Austin will appreciate Davenport, Iowa-by-way-of-Fort-Collins' favorite son somewhat more than the clueless Idol judges.
