Newswire The Shins release new song, announce spring tour dates

The Shins, 2012 tour, Port Of Morrow, September

The past few months have seen a steady buildup of news about The Shins—from the initial “hey, there will be a new Shins record” announcement last August to the release of the first single, “Simple Song,” a month ago. Today marks the next step in the slow accumulation of anticipatory glee with the release of tour dates and another song.

The new song is “September,” which will serve as the B-side to “Simple Song.” Like its already-in-heavy-rotation A-side, “September” is a slice of pretty, melancholy pop that should get Shins fans even more excited about the March 20 release of Port Of Morrow.

Even better is the announcement of a spring tour to follow the record’s release, kicking off in Las Vegas April 13. Word is this iteration of The Shins will include Richard Swift (Modest Mouse), Yuuki Matthews (Crystal Skulls), Jessica Dobson, and Joe Plummer in the place of former Shins. Regardless of who stands behind him, James Mercer will still be front and center, which is what counts, right?
