This Will Destroy You plans out new album, extensive tour

If Austin-based titans of post-rock Explosions In The Sky have taught us anything, it’s a sense of patience. EITS’ spiritual successors (who really hate it when you call them that) in This Will Destroy You know this well: The quartet’s long-gestating sophomore effort, Tunnel Blanket, will finally see release on Suicide Squeeze this May, and the band is rewarding fans for their patience with an extensive national tour.
Other Texas acts who take their burns slow and/or their fuses long will be along for the ride, with Pure X and Sleep Over (whose members will get that damn “∞” when they type it with The A.V. Club’s cold, dead fingers) opening the first few dates, including a May 25 stop in Denver at the Larimer Lounge.
Given the magic touch that Tunnel Blanket producer John Congleton has brought to most efforts by Shearwater, The Walkmen, and St. Vincent, the This Will Destroy You record is likely to end up on a lot of year-end lists—but don’t take our speculative word for it. Check out this IFC performance of the Tunnel Blanket track “Little Smoke.”
