Tokyo Extreme Fashion Show Saturday

You American otaku—and anyone else who enjoys a good Gothic Lolita—will have a good excuse to leave the house Saturday, Jan. 29, when Gimme Gimme Pillow Toast marks the end of its latest pop-up store with a Tokyo Extreme Fashion Show. You don’t even have to know what Decora, J-Rock, Himegyaru Princess, FRUiTS, Visual Kei, Medical Punk, or Ganguro even mean to enjoy it. (Hint: They mean that Japanese people have a variety of awesomely fucked-up fashion trends that make for some pretty amazing eye candy).

If you do know what all that means, then this is the perfect excuse to bust out your own doubtless impressive outfits and show them off to some fellow acolytes. Otherwise, you can just head down to Mod Livin’ (5327 E. Colfax Ave.) from 5-9 p.m. dressed in your regular, boring, American clothes and enjoy the spectacle, which will include a runway show, Japanese-fashion makeovers of local artists and musicians (including Hot White!), and a brand-new cupcake concoction. It’s also one of your last chances to get awesome Asian tchotchkes from Gimme Gimme Pillow Toast—the store’s last day of existence in its current incarnation is Sunday, Jan. 30.
