Bouncey castles, elephants, bands, and more. FUN!
Do you ever wish you could take everything you love about summer in Denver, put it together in one place, and just have a blast for a few days? That’s the idea behind the Too Much Funstival, a four-day radical event at Curtis Park and venues around downtown. With festival planning still in its early stages, comedian and Funstival curator Sam Tallent is breathlessly excited about what’s going to go down Aug. 25-28.
“I just wanted to have a big event on a Saturday where we just hung out at my favorite park and did cool stuff,” Tallent explains. “Now it’s mushroom-clouded into this gnarly, gnarly thing. Everybody’s really gotten behind it, and so many new possibilities and avenues that I didn’t even think were possible are opening up. It’s really cool.”
Starting Thursday, Aug. 25, there will be concerts in venues around town every night for the duration of the festival, and performances by comedians to boot. Several local bands are already confirmed to play the fest, including Panal S.A. De C.V, Hot White, and Sauna. The precise venues and times are yet to be determined.
“People think, because it’s a festival, that it’s an all-day thing—but if you have to work during the day, that’s fine. Just get off Saturday, and we’re gonna party our dicks off all day Saturday,” Tallent says. “Every bit of money we make is going to go directly back into renting elephants and bounce castles.”
Curtis Park will host the festival’s field day and carnival Saturday, Aug. 27, with planned activities including everything from kickball, dodgeball, and capture the flag games to dunk tanks and pie eating contests. Teams of five can register for $150 or, if you don’t have four friends who enjoy fun, you can register as a lone wolf for $35. Registration will get you access to all of the shows, the field day, and the awards ceremony that’s set for Sunday night at Mouth House.
The festival is being funded by donations and run by volunteers. To donate money and stay updated on the pure madness of Too Much Funstival visit the event’s website.
