Allie Pohl, Ideal Woman, necklace Ideal Woman: Necklace

Grope the ideal woman tonight: Denver artist Allie Pohl’s new multimedia exhibit Ideal Woman: 36-24-36—opening today at Hinterland (3254 Walnut St., 720-309-1764)—includes sculptural forms that viewers are encouraged to grab and squeeze. Just don’t try to get fresh with the artist. “My artistic objective is to critique cultural trends that I find impractical or destructive to the female form,” Pohl writes in her artist statement. “I strive to express the absurdities, conflicts, and hypocrisies society presents about ‘ideal’ women.”

The reception starts at 6 p.m. and includes the usual wine/crackers/gallery banter about gender roles, as well as a set by DJ Tyler Snow. Pohl will also be debuting the second edition of her jewelry line (also named Ideal Woman) tonight, which like her work, is a lively comment on the impossible physical standards imposed on women. And it comes in colors!
