Wovenhand show incoming, Breathe Carolina’s hockey set, and more

Our music scene is a busy place with lots happening. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you could miss something important! That’s okay—we’re here to help with a weekly roundup of some of the more enticing news happening around town.
• Good news for Wovenhand fans: The gloom-and-doom Americana act has announced its first local live show for the year, scheduled for March 24 at the Oriental Theater. Even better news for Swans fans: The bill includes Michael Gira. Giddyup.
• Breathe Carolina will soundtrack the L.A. Kings-Dallas Stars game tomorrow night at the Staples Center. The band has been invited to play during both intermissions of the hockey game, which seems kind of weird but also somehow totally appropriate.
• The music of Fingers Of The Sun has a far reach, all the way to central Europe. The Denver band’s “Cashmere Paisley Polyester” (off last year’s self-titled debut) landed on Jerks From The Garage, a digital compilation posted by Czech-based label Budabeats. A worldly release, the album—available as a free download—is a ’60s-loving musical pastiche that includes modern acts from both sides of the Atlantic and even one from Guatemala.
• Calder’s Revolvers have boldly stepped into the new year with a new website. But more important, the revamped digital digs include a stream/free download of the band’s just-released Black Bloc EP.
• Those dirty boys in Cobraconda teased “Back In Black” back in December, and it looks like they’ve finally set a date for its release. The guys have announced a world video première over at the This Song Is Sick blog, slated for Jan. 24 at noon. Need a fix now? Check out this quickie Cobraconda video recently posted by local production crew Pause Sleep Play:
