North Carolina’s Alesana announced its over-the-top ambitions with its first full-length, 2006’s ridiculously titled On Frail Wings Of Vanity And Wax, which chugged through screamed verses, Maiden-inspired harmonized guitar passages, and woe-is-me choruses. Last year’s sophomore album, Where Myth Fades To Legend, tips even further toward fantasy, scratching out the emo angst of stories inspired by the Brothers Grimm.
