Alexisonfire, Trash Talk, La Dispute, and Therefore I Am at Marquis Theater
Post-hardcore outfit Alexisonfire turned up the punk dial for 2009's Old Crows / Young Cardinals, but that doesn't mean it's free of tired nü-metal conceits like having the gravelly voiced guy (George Pettit) bark verses before the non-gravelly voiced guy (Dallas Green) sings earnest, soaring choruses. Still, the Ontario band is pretty fun in a fist-pumping way. Michigan-based opener La Dispute writes songs of pain and loss in a way only five young white males from the Midwest can: channeling the hurt and confusion through shifting time signatures, pointy guitar harmonies, and half-screamed vocals.
