Audrey Hepburn Film Series: Breakfast At Tiffany's at Mayan Theatre
Though author Truman Capote wanted Marilyn Monroe to play his heroine, it’s difficult to imagine anyone but a young Audrey Hepburn as the vulnerable, spirited Holly Golightly in 1961’s Breakfast At Tiffany’s. The film takes the story of a chic New York call girl in a more conventional direction by omitting some of the book’s darker elements and giving the protagonist a romantic, unambiguous ending. Even if it deviates from the original novella in these respects—and perhaps, because it does—the movie has become an enduring classic and an iconic piece of pop culture in its own right.
