The Avett Brothers at Ogden Theatre
While their history might sound clichéd—band of alt-rock twentysomethings breaks up, turns to back-porch country and bluegrass—North Carolina natives The Avett Brothers play with such unironic conviction that the choice appears completely logical. Ragged harmonies, foot-stomping, and instrument-banging fill out the trio’s sound, anchored by banjo, guitar, and upright bass. Emotionalism, their 2007 album, infuses brimming melodies with a brash attitude that pushes through any of the album’s weaker spots; here, expect cuts off the Rick Rubin-produced I And Love And You, which was recently pushed back for a September release.
