Barcelona, Speakeasy Tiger, and All The Day Holiday at Marquis TheaterMarquis Theater 2009 Larimer St, Denver/Boulder, CO
Seattle-based indie-pop group Barcelona’s lush, soaring pop is inevitably reminiscent of both Coldplay and Death Cab For Cutie, though vocalist and songwriter Brian Fennell’s breathy vocals and heart-on-sleeve emotionality make such comparisons deserved and not just de rigueur. The group is touring now behind a freshly re-released and expanded version of its debut disc Absolutes, originally self-produced and released in 2007 but given a new look after Barcelona was signed to Universal Motown in 2008. The new version, featuring extra acoustic material, was remixed by Michael Brauer, who won two Grammys for his work with (who else?) Coldplay.
