Brand New, Manchester Orchestra, and The Builders And The Butchers at Fillmore Auditorium

Although it started in 2000 with an eye toward pop-punk, Long Island's Brand New quickly moved past using break-ups as its primary source of inspiration. 2003's Deja Entendu evolved beyond emo to a more progressive post-hardcore sound, which continued on Brand New's 2006 major-label debut, The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me. The band follows precedent on 2009's Daisy, which emphasizes mood, utilizing muddled guitars followed by distinct notes, driving, sometimes drone-like drum beats. Tourmates Manchester Orchestra’s debut full-length, I’m Like A Virgin Losing A Child, is full of brainy storytelling overlaid with rousing, raw hooks, and this year's well-received follow-up, Mean Everything To Nothing, keeps it going.
