The Builders And The Butchers, The Build-Up, Ivory Drive, and The Soft Focus at Meadowlark
The Builders And The Butchers’ name alone implies a sound from another time, a time when men tilled the soil from sunup to sundown. Soaked heavily in a traditional folk influence using banjos, mandolins, and plenty of disjointed percussion, the band’s gospel songs tell stories of life, death, and all the hard labor between. At some points, lead singer Ryan Sollee’s piercing croon is strangely reminiscent of Michael Stipe, creating an interesting contrast to the band’s rustic and tattered sound.
