The Cody Rivers Show at Bovine Metropolis Theater
Like clockwork, The Cody Rivers Show—a Bellingham, Washington-based duo—comes to town every year with a new sketch show; and like clockwork, each outing blows most of the local comedy scene right out of the water. Mike Mathieu and Andrew Conner favor absurdist, physical material, resulting in total physical and mental captivation: two guys in green jumpsuits dancing and singing about a dead dog; a cartoonish scene using the actors’ hands as puppets, and their bodies as the terrain of an alien planet; an impeccably choreographed movement piece involving large exercise balls. A little acting, plus production elbow grease, goes a long way.
