Coheed And Cambria, Circa Survive, and Torche at Ogden Theatre
Coheed And Cambria’s insane, sprawling, and occasionally comprehensible multi-album, sci-fi rock opera The Amory Wars came to a conclusion with 2007’s Good Apollo I’m Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World For Tomorrow (see, only occasionally comprehensible), but like George Lucas before him, Coheed frontman Claudio Sanchez couldn’t let his epic rest without a little backstory. Unlike Lucas, however, Sanchez maintained a consistent vision even as the musical direction of the massive project evolved toward a greater emphasis on prog-rock twists over emotional catharsis; the newly released Armory prequel Year Of The Black Rainbow manages to assert the band’s inclination toward the anthemic without sacrificing the odd time signatures or guitar heroics.
