Converge, Signatures, Ruining Seed, and Spoken In Fire at Black Sheep
Converge seemed to peak in 2001, when the Boston outfit released the stunning Jane Doe, a shockingly powerful mix of hardcore, metal, and noise that proved the long-running band still had a lot of gas in the tank after a decade together. Although two solid albums have followed since—2004's You Fail Me and 2006's No Heroes—Converge has arguably topped Jane Doe with this year's Axe To Fall. Opening with a blistering four-song attack, the album is one of the year's best, and a new high-water mark for a band that keeps getting better.
