When frontman David Lowery split up alt-rock underdogs Camper Van Beethoven to form country-rock band Cracker, some fans might have wondered whether he had gone straight. But Lowery hasn’t so much abandoned one path for another as indulged the experimental and trad-rock aspects of his personality simultaneously. After scoring a fluky hit with “Low,” Cracker stuck with its more idiosyncratic side for the next several years, which has kept Lowery’s fame comfortably cult-level. But on 2009's Sunrise In The Land Of Milk And Honey, Cracker returns to the relatively straightforward sound of its best album, 1993’s Kerosene Hat
