Cute Is What We Aim For, The Friday Night Boys, The Bigger Lights, and Down With Webster at Marquis Theater
No one would ever expect a band named Cute Is What We Aim For to produce great art, and the emo-pop outfit gladly met those middling expectations on its two albums, pounding away at simple hooks and smirky wordplay. But the group encountered some serious, real-life issues in 2009 when it essentially broke up after the Take Action Tour and frontman Shaant Hacikyan entered rehab for alcohol abuse. Last August, Hacikyan announced he was going solo in a terse Twitter update, but in January of this year he decided to revive CIWWAF with all new members. New material is in the works—a single, “Harbor” was released via Twitter—that Hacikyan says recalls the band’s 2006 debut, The Same Old Blood Rush With A New Touch. Yay?
