Deadbolt, Whiskey Throttle, and The Mighty 18 Wheeler at Bluebird Theater

The self-proclaimed “Scariest Band in the World,” Deadbolt plays a doomy, bottom-heavy strain of surf-rock that takes plenty of obvious tremolo-drenched cues from The Cramps and other psychobilly acts inspired by Famous Monsters Of Filmland. Its confrontational stage presence lacks an electrifying center à la the late Lux Interior, however—a missing manic spark Deadbolt compensates for by throwing actual sparks into the crowd, courtesy of an unending supply of power tools and sheet metal. The recent departure of founding member R.A. MacLean left the band with only one bassist—and therefore without a key element to its downbeat rumble—but even as a four-piece, Deadbolt still sounds spooky enough to soundtrack your next graveyard tiki party.
