Fair To Midland, Karnivool, and Something To Burn at Marquis Theater
Fair To Midland plays convoluted, proggy hard rock marked by a rare touch of finesse and warped song structures, which manage to surprise every so often. The band’s major-label debut, Fables From A Mayfly: What I Tell You Three Times Is True, was issued on Serj Tankian’s Serjical Strike imprint in 2007, and proved more digestible than work from some of the Dallas band’s peers (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, for one). The nimble guitar work doesn’t completely drown in distortion, and the vocals manage to not owe absolutely everything to their label head. A fourth album is still in the early stages of recording, although the band has leaked previews of it onstage and online.
