Fu Manchu, Black Sleep Of Kali, and Audio Dream Sister at Larimer Lounge

Not since the Ramones has there been a worthwhile band that required such a limited mental capacity to enjoy. Fu Manchu is about sludgy distortions, stomping rhythms, and not much else. The SoCal band’s shows follow the same principle, allowing anyone to tune in, turn on, and rock out unpretentiously. Since signing to Century Media for 2007’s We Must Obey, Fu Manchu has gone onto slight commercial success—“Mongoose” from California Crossing was featured in a 2008 Super Bowl ad—and it recently released its 10th studio album, Signs Of Infinite Power. The record is a stylistic plateau for the band, but then doing anythingother than heavy, riffing stoner rock would be going against its own keep-it-simple philosophy.
