Horse Feathers, Old Canes, and The Always Already at Hi-DiveHorse Feathers are not the first, last, or cleverest indie-folk group you’ll hear these days, but they’ve quietly stored up more staying power than most. Portland’s Justin Ringle writes songs around worthwhile, if sometimes vague, stories, adding both pathos and mystery with his sometimes-high, sometimes-whispery, always creaky voice. Ringle and bandmates had a pretty good handle on arranging the tunes with spare acoustic guitar, cello, and other mostly acoustic instruments on their first album, Words Are Dead, but turned all that into something much more worn-in and sonically engulfing on their 2008 debut for Kill Rock Stars, House With No Home.Hi-Dive 7 S Broadway, Denver/Boulder, CO
