Hot Buttered Rum at Fox TheatreA bluegrass revival act trapped in a jam band’s body, Hot Buttered Rum embraces Americana and its subgenres with a healthy disdain for boundaries. The group’s instruments aren’t electrified, and its songs exude a folky accessibility that seems designed for summer festivals. The title of Hot Buttered Rum’s 2006 album, Well-Oiled Machine, is a bit of an inside joke: Like fellow alternative-fuel proponents Neil Young and Willie Nelson, the band (whose members met on a backpacking trip) recently altered its tour bus’ engine to run on vegetable oil.
