Jason Boland And The Stragglers at Aggie Theater
Jason Boland & The Stragglers’ existence is happily suspended between two worlds: It’s too twangy to be rock and too modern to be considered traditional country. The band creates a sound often labeled “red dirt,” after the Dust Bowl that spawned the group. Although Boland’s lonesome croon definitely leans toward the sappier, country side of things, it hasn’t stopped the group from amassing a diverse fan base since its formation in 1998. After a releasing a handful of albums to mild success on country music charts, 2008’s Comal Country Blue landed in Billboard’s Top 200, showing the band’s pop-crossover capabilities.
