Jeffree Star, Artist Vs. Poet, Watchout! Theres Ghosts, and Let's Get It at Marquis Theater
Something like a cross between Hedwig and Perez Hilton, gender-bending, self-made “Queen Of The Internet” Jeffree Star built his bizarre following with a series of bitchy rants on MySpace, eventually becoming one of the social-networking site’s most popular users. Naturally, a music career followed, beginning with a series of attention-grabbing, web-only songs like “We Want Cunt,” written with ex-Hole drummer Samantha Maloney, and culminating in last year’s Cupcakes Taste Like Violence EP and the upcoming studio debut, Beauty Killer. It goes without saying that Star traffics in the same sort of blasé, proudly derivative electro-pop that all such talentless fame whores ultimately end up producing—but as always, the spectacle is the only thing that matters.
