Jerry Joseph and Harmonious Junk at Bluebird Theater
Portland, Ore.’s Jerry Joseph is best known for his band The Jackmormons, a long-running roots-rock group that owes musical debts to Tom Petty and early Dire Straits. Like Ike Reilly, he favors a kind of Springsteen-meets-The Clash Americana that hasn’t netted him the exposure his talent probably deserves. Still, he’s maintained a well-rounded career in recent years, releasing The Jackmormons’ 2006 disc, Into The Lovely, and a pair of more personal, stripped-down solo discs, Cherry and April Nineteenth. He has also played with Widespread Panic’s Dave Schools in jammy supergroup Stockholm Syndrome, and joined drummer Steve Drizos in yet another combo, The Denmark Veseys. Here, he plays a solo gig sure to draw out his Chris Whitley-esque, soul-punk side.
