East Coast reggae band John Brown’s Body conjures up solid roots riddims and socially conscious, Jah-based political sentiments. (Are there any reggae bands that are not socially conscious?) The group has been a prolific touring act since 1995, though it underwent a significant lineup shake-up several years ago when bassist Scott Palmer died of cancer and singer Kevin Kinsella quit. Charging on, 2008 saw the release of Amplify, John Brown’s Body’s first album in three years, followed by the more recent Re-Amplify, a remix EP featuring live editions and clubby re-workings by Gym Class Heroes and house DJ Tommie Sunshine.
