John Fogerty at Temple Hoyne Buell Theatre
As the voice of Creedence Clearwater Revival and the writer of such simple-but-effective classics as “Bad Moon Rising,” “Proud Mary,” and “Born On The Bayou,” John Fogerty proved that he had that rare ability to speak both to and for an entire generation. Recording exactly nothing in the nine years between 1976 and 1985—in defiance of a publishing contract he despised—he’s shown he can hold his tongue when not feeling properly motivated, a fact that makes his return to the stage in recent years all the more powerful. The aptly named Revival, released in 2007, finds the songwriter back on Fantasy Records—where he cut those CCR songs three decades ago—getting nostalgic but not wistful.
