Kings Of Leon’s whiskey-soaked Southern rock has steadily progressed from fleeting indie stardom to Grammy-winning mainstream acclaim. Because Of The Times, the band’s 2007 larger-than-life third album, propelled the Nashville quartet—composed of three brothers and a cousin—into a new strata of achievement, but it was 2008’s Only By The Night, an explosively decadent tribute to classic rock and epic experimentalism, that marked Kings Of Leon’s entry into musical maturity and crazy-popular success. A hotly anticipated, still-untitled follow-up has been announced for later this year; the band has already been testing out new songs at recent festival appearances, so expect to hear some fresh material here as well.
