Maceo Parker and Lubriphonic at Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom
Maceo Parker’s career is steeped in jazz and funk history: Starting out as a member of James Brown’s band, the saxophonist’s style is immortalized in “Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag.” Between stints with Brown, Parker also joined George Clinton as part of Parliament Funkadelic, though he eventually split off to work on a solo career. Parker’s fluid funk mastery of the alto sax has made him a sought-after player for many pop-oriented acts, from Prince to De La Soul to jam-band craftsman Dave Matthews.
