Matt Pond PA and Bobby Long at Fox Theatre

Brooklyn’s Matt Pond PA writes sleepy, minimalistic rock, and while it’s not the most aggressively creative, it is innocuously straightforward. On the new The Dark Leaves, frontman/namesake Matt Pond delivers everything he’s ever promised—rainy-day ballads and sensitive-guy crooning—and not much else. Dark Leaves is a slowly paced, mostly acoustic effort with plinking pianos and understated transitions. It sounds a lot like its predecessors, which isn't at all astonishing. Tourmate Bobby Long similarly deals in spare, acoustic ballads and prodigious harmonica blowing. His popularity soared following his inclusion on the first Twilight soundtrack, though he has yet to release an official debut (it’s due this summer). However, he’s managed to keep fans hooked with last year’s 10-song bedroom recording, Dirty Pond Songs.
