Midnight Madness: Repo! The Genetic Opera at Esquire Theatre
A twisted, unforgettable “goth rock opera” spun from disparate strands of Blade Runner, Sweeney Todd, and the feverish imagination of some comics-obsessed Nine Inch Nails fan, Repo! The Genetic Opera is set in a dystopian future where those who default on payments for their synthetic organs are visited by murderous repo men. The blackly comic epic unfolds around sickly Alexa Vega and her overprotective father as they’re ensnared by the monolithic GeneCo and its Machiavellian CEO (Paul Sorvino). Overflowing with blood and bombast—not to mention WTF supporting turns from Paris Hilton and Skinny Puppy’s Nivek Ogre—Repo! seems destined to be The Rocky Horror Picture Show of the 21st century.
