Mux Mool, B. Bravo, Cloud-D, Wyatt Lamond, and Hot Box at Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom

On Mux Mool’s newest release, Planet High School, Brian Lindgren experiments with how big and expansive he can make the small and ambient, as well as how much variation he can find within the monotony of a loop. At its best, the record flows effortlessly through listeners’ environments, lacing its pulse with hip-hop and funk sensibilities. At its worst, it lapses into a mess of disjointed expressions, frenetic loops that fail to work in harmony, and awkward beats that thump like a judge trying to regain control of an unruly courtroom. If Lindgren can correct those shortcomings and emphasize his strengths, then Mux Mool productions might join the top ranks of experimentally inclined, indie-friendly electronic artists. If not, well, his music will always be perfect material for student films.
