Quasi and Explode Into Colors at Larimer Lounge
Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss have long rock résumés—Coomes played in Elliott Smith's Heatmiser, Weiss in Sleater-Kinney and Stephen Malkmus' Jicks—and the formerly married couple has performed as Quasi since 1993. The band’s disjointed blues-rock drums and keyboard combos vary in texture from album to album, but its sound is always accented by Coomes’ thematic lyrics, ranging from politics to narrated dream states. The band added bassist Joanna Bolme (also of Stephen Malkmus And The Jicks) to the mix in 2007, and released its eighth album/Kill Rock Stars debut, American Gong, this year.
