Reverend Horton Heat and Deadbolt at Black Sheep

As the pinnacle of the early-’90s rockabilly revival, Reverend Horton Heat spastically twitched out a rollickingly jittery twang that brought a party swagger back to a scene drenched by moody downer grunge. In the following decade, the Rev got more mainstream-friendly while expanding his sound, which wasn’t always a good thing; things hit a low point on the bland scale with a 2005 Christmas album. Still, few of his peers have maintained his loyal following and in-concert frenzy. Though he’s concentrated mainly on touring instead of recording new material over the past few years, Heat is working on a new album he hopes to release in 2009.
