Rock & Roll Jihad: A Muslim Rock Star's Revolution (Book Signing) at Tattered Cover Book Store (City Park)

When Salman Ahmad was 11 years old, his family moved from Pakistan to New York. There, years later at Madison Square Garden, he saw Led Zeppelin play—nothing was ever the same for him after that. Rock & Roll Jihad details how Ahmad, inspired by Western bands, formed sufi-rock act Junoon and brought rock music back to his home country (and continent), fighting politicians and fanatics all along the way. Ahmad attempts also in the autobiography to reclaim the word “jihad” from the extremists he says made it synonymous with terrorism. Jihad, he explains, is the struggle to bring clashing worlds together. In order to do that, he must rock.
