Rooney, Tally Hall, and Crash Kings at Bluebird Theater
Named after a John Hughes character—Principal Ed Rooney from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off—tepid rock/pop crossover Rooney is a precise combination of Weezer and The Cars. The California quintet carries on the sexy-nerds-in-rock tradition, and has toured with the likes of Kelly Clarkson and The Strokes. Its 2009 effort, Wild One, was released song by song on the band’s website; the full EP will be sold exclusively on this tour. Tourmates Tally Hall, a quirky rock five-piece, is most identifiable by its colored neckties and Barenaked Ladies-style soft sense of humor, and has been riding on the strength of its first and only full-length release, 2005’s Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum.
