Rx Bandits, Dredg, and As Tall As Lions at Gothic Theatre
Dredg is a California group that dabbled in nü-metal before reconfiguring itself as a neo-prog band spiked with eerie, foreign-language vocals and atmospheric piano interludes. Its new The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion is perhaps its most overblown to date: 18 tracks encompassing everything from children’s choirs to chugga-chugga metal riffs to lyrics inspired by Salman Rushdie poems. Frequent tourmates Rx Bandits went the opposite direction on the new Mandala, stripping away their usual horn bombast for a slightly more rockist take on their usual scratchy funk-ska hybrid.
