Snake Rattle Rattle Snake, Ian Cooke, and Glass Hits at Bluebird Theater
Ian Cooke started out in Uphollow, one of Denver’s longest-running bands, and eventually broke off in the earlier part of this decade as a one-man cello act. His 2007 full-length and accompanying 2009 DVD, The Fall I Fell, was critically lauded upon its release and remains a local favorite. Cooke’s voice dips and cuts through his delicate and orchestral songs, filled out with a looping pedal. His lyrics are aggrieved, if not harsh, but never without their charm. As the Ian Cooke Band, Cooke’s loops are traded in for a fuller, brighter sound, but his awkward and delightful voice remains the avant-folk artist’s strongest attraction.
