Steve McGrew at Comedy Works (Downtown)
The comedy business has been pretty good to Steve McGrew: He worked as a cartoonist for the Houston Chronicle, found success both onstage and on television (he even once appeared on Star Search), and eventually found his calling in radio as a loudmouthed morning jockey on KYGO 98.5 FM in Denver. The Texas-bred McGrew was recently let go from the station after eight years and a number of radio awards; his contract, however, keeps him on the air through February 2010. The pink slip hasn’t kept McGrew down, and he’s been slowly working his way back onto the stand-up circuit. His comedy is as middle-America-centered as ever, replete with a Southern drawl and Walmart jokes.
