The Swellers and Allout Helter at Marquis Theater
Michigan’s The Swellers honor the glory days of skate-punk with some frantic, meaty rhythms and honor their mates on pop-punk label Fueled By Ramen with plenty of forceful whine-along choruses. Another plus is that The Swellers like to write about Rust Belt industrial decline more than the usual juvenile fodder, hence the title of 2009’s Ups And Downsizing. Their follow-up, Good For Me, has a less juvenile name, but keeps the same pop-punk sound.
